SL Christmas Expo Sponsor Spotlight – Ever An’ Angel

SL Christmas Expo Merchant Spotlight Interview with Ever Courtois of Ever An’ Angel

WE ARE DELIGHTED YOU CHOSE TO BECOME A 2016 SL CHRISTMAS EXPO SPONSOR! WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GET INVOLVED WITH RELAY FOR LIFE OF SECOND LIFE AND THE EXPO?
We are delighted to be here! Angel and I have participated in the SL Christmas Expo since 2013. I think. it’s something that is a big part of our in world Xmas experience and we look forward to it each year. Relay for Life is a huge cause for us, having both been touched by losses and struggles among family and friends from cancer. Angel herself is also a survivor having been diagnosed in 2014. Her treatment and prevalence further cemented our commitment to the cause.

WHAT ARE SOME ACTIVITIES OR THINGS YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO AT THE 2016 SL CHRISTMAS EXPO & WINTER BREEDABLES FAIR?
Shopping! Our annual perusing the event gets us in the Christmas mood in so many ways. We are both as much excited by shopping it as we are by being in it. We ALWAYS wear ice skates and it’s a real event for us. You know we have been best friends for years now and while we do get together at least once or twice a year, to those of us in SL relationships and families of any kind – it is just as important to build those bonding traditions inworld as it is in RL. “EXPO” has become a very big part of that for us.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN SL? WHEN DID YOU OPEN YOUR BUSINESS?
I think we have both been in SL roughly a decade. WOW did I just say that? We met in 2010 and Ever An’ Angel opened in early 2011.

WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU CREATE?
Women’s clothing, men’s clothing to some extent and also Tone cosmetics line. We also create a lot of general mayhem and chaos and I would have to say we count these among our most successful achievements. 🙂

TELL US WHAT INSPIRES YOUR CREATIONS.
First of all, color is HUGE for me. It has to speak to the fabric concept and to the mood, era and style of the designs. I seek to make clothing in SL a very immerse experience. I often say I am not done with an outfit component until I can “feel” it on me.

I derive a lot of my base ideas from what appeals in RL and also from the input of Angel, my long time muse, and our lead Model and dear friend ESSY Luv. Lately I note the styles and tastes of my staff members and good friends subliminally popping up in my work as well. It never starts out like that, it’s just something that pops up while I am creating – “ah, this looks like something __________ would wear….”

HOW DO YOU KEEP UP WITH THE LATEST TRENDS IN SECOND LIFE?
While I to seek to keep Ever An’ Angel designs current and fresh, I am not trendy. I don’t watch for the latest bend in the fashion road but rather what I see appeals to my own eyes. I think we have to trust our own instincts when “arting” or we fall prey to providing a service instead of creating and then we loose track of what makes us good at what we do.

My work has a stamp and that’s not just okay – it’s a good thing. I don’t expect it to be the only thing in anyone’s closet or the only thing they wear. When someone wears my brand it should suit that particular mood or event for them. I myself am often compelled to wear other designer’s styles from time to time because I want to wear someone else’s brush strokes for a change.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST FAVORITE ITEM YOU HAVE EVER CREATED AND WHY?
As of this time I am really enjoying my charity line of one of a kind Regency gowns. The first one for the Spoonful Of Sugar Festival to benefit MSF/Doctors Without Borders was a huge success in the auction and I have created a “Yule” version for the EXPO. Each is presented in the style of a Regency book cover, and that’s a lot of the fun too. It’s pure unapologetic fantasy to step into one of those books and I think we all want to put ourselves in the role of those heroines. Where can we if not in SL?

DO YOU HAVE AN IN WORLD STORE? DO YOU MAINTAIN A PRESENCE ON THE SL MARKETPLACE?
Yes we have a HUGE in world store. We suck at Market Place. I think we have a half dozen things there. We keep saying we need to be more present there but it just doesn’t happen!

IS THERE ANY ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO A PERSON WHO IS STARTING OUT IN YOUR CHOSEN CAREER?
Oh yes.
Do it because you love the art. Be generous with your time, talents and energy but know your limits. You’re not helping anyone by saying “yes”, then ending up meaning “no” and not following through on commitments.
SL is a social platform. If your not here for the people then don’t put yourself in the middle of them by opening a business.

AS YOU KNOW WE ARE ALWAYS GROWING AND LEARNING. IS THERE ANY ONE THING YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN MORE ABOUT (SL or RL) AND WHY?
SL: I am slowly learning to mesh.
RL: I am insatiably curious – the list is way too long.

IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH THREE FAMOUS PEOPLE FROM HISTORY, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?
Elizabeth Warren
HH the 14th (current) Dalai Lama
Jon Stewart

I admire them and want to know if they have good table manners.

ever-an-angel-century-wine

WHAT ONE WORD WOULD YOUR FRIENDS USE TO DESCRIBE YOU?
Ever: I don’t know you need to ask them 🙂

Angel: I would say the word to describe Ever is “dynamic”

TELL US ABOUT YOUR SHOP AT THE EXPO. ARE YOU OFFERING ANY EXCLUSIVES AND IF SO, WHAT ARE THEY ?
EVERYTHING we put in the expo is always exclusive for the duration of the event and is 50 to 100% for RFL The Annual Sheep themed PJS are only sold at the Expo then retired.
This year we have a gown, a cocktail dress and more. Also as stated above “Regency – Yule” gown will be our one of a kind contribution this year.

WHAT IS SOMETHING WE CAN LOOK FORWARD TO IN 2017 FROM EVER AN’ ANGEL?
Original Mesh designs, Omega Appliers for Tone Cosmetics possibly… and some other things we have up our sleeves we can’t talk about just yet 😉

SL Christmas Expo Sponsor Spotlight -Hanaya- Home & Garden

SL Christmas Expo Merchant Spotlight Interview with Moriko Inshan of -Hanaya- Home & Garden

WE ARE DELIGHTED YOU CHOSE TO BECOME A 2016 SL CHRISTMAS EXPO SPONSOR!  WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GET INVOLVED WITH RELAY FOR LIFE OF SECOND LIFE AND THE EXPO?
I’m always open to donate my work to RfL, since I’m a cancer survivor myself.

WHAT ARE SOME ACTIVITIES OR THINGS YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO AT THE 2016 SL CHRISTMAS EXPO & WINTER BREEDABLES FAIR?
I’m really looking forward to wandering around at the expo, looking at how my colleagues have set up their stores and what new things they have created.

_hanaya-moriko-inshanHOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN SL? WHEN DID YOU OPEN YOUR BUSINESS?
I’ve been in Second Life for almost 9 years. -Hanaya- Home & Garden has been in operation since the Fall of 2010 and is still located in the same location as when we opened.

WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU CREATE?
I made whatever I feel like, but mostly Home and Garden decor.

TELL US WHAT INSPIRES YOUR CREATIONS.
It depends. It could be something I see in real life or a magazine, something that just pops into my head when I’m reading a book, or just some random idea that appears out of thin air. But always realistic and following the seasons.

HOW DO YOU KEEP UP WITH THE LATEST TRENDS IN SECOND LIFE?
I don’t really. I occasionally look at Plurk or Flickr, but I don’t really sit down and “investigate what is in style right now”. I do my own thing and don’t worry about what others are doing.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST FAVORITE ITEM YOU HAVE EVER CREATED AND WHY?
I don’t really have a most favorite item. On our home sim, we make a point of featuring other people’s work, so some of those are my favourites. Especially scripted animals, fish and birds.

DO YOU HAVE AN IN WORLD STORE?  DO YOU MAINTAIN A PRESENCE ON THE SL MARKETPLACE?
Yes, and yes. As mentioned, my in world store is still in the same little skybox on mainland that we started on. Links to both are in my SL profile 😉

IS THERE ANY ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE TO A PERSON WHO IS STARTING OUT IN YOUR CHOSEN CAREER?
My store is definitely not a career – it is a hobby I suppose. Are hobbies still a thing? As far as advice – have fun and do what you are passionate about. Stop when it stars to be a chore instead of a joy.

AS YOU KNOW WE ARE ALWAYS GROWING AND LEARNING. IS THERE ANY ONE THING YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN MORE ABOUT (SL or RL) AND WHY?
I want to take lessons in watercolor painting.

IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH THREE FAMOUS PEOPLE FROM HISTORY, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?
Capability Brown (a gardener from the 18th century), Julia Child (whom I’ve actually met in real life when I was a kiddo), and Roger Tory Peterson (a naturalist and famous birder).

WHAT ONE WORD WOULD YOUR FRIENDS USE TO DESCRIBE YOU?
Picky.

Praise the Volunteers!!!

Winter Expo 1.2a

The following is excerpted from the 2009 Praise the Volunteers! blog post by Dr. Len Lichtenfeld of The American Cancer Society

” Without our volunteers…(we can) not support our core mission, let alone survive.  We are fortunate to have many wonderful people … who are are devoted to our cause.  They are what makes the American Cancer Society such a special place for so many of us….

Volunteers often labor for hours with little recognition.  They do what they do from the goodness of their hearts and their belief in a cause.   They offer their time and their skills because they want to make a difference, help someone who needs help, offer comfort to others in their time of need.

One of the ultimate stories… (is) how one volunteer can make a difference, and how one person with an idea can impact the lives of millions for years to come—both cancer survivors and those whose volunteer their time and skill to support those survivors and the mission of the American Cancer Society.

To all of our American Cancer Society volunteers, and to all of you who volunteer in whatever way you choose, from our hearts to yours, thank you for everything that you do every day.  We are all blessed for your efforts.”

Volunteer Spotlight on Madonna

I’m the Merchant Support lead here for this year’s Expo. Nuala asked me if I would be willing to volunteer for the position, because of my prior experience as a coach and tool tester. My team ~Gemma Cleanslate, Michiko Avon, Stevie Basevi , Aphrodite Serin~ and I are here to help merchants get everything setup, and help out with anything else they may need during the Expo.

Madonna Expo 2015

Second Life has enabled us to have a Relay For Life without boundaries and without barriers. We are able to reach people all around the globe. We are able to do things that just aren’t possible in “first life” Relays. Thanks to this virtual world, we have been able to unite in the world’s most unique and diverse Relay. Cancer affects us all, and SL has made it possible to involve us all.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this year’s Christmas Expo. Thank you to everyone who has supported this year’s Expo. Thank you to my Merchant Support team for your help. We are making it possible for cancer survivors to enjoy more Christmases. Let’s give cancer the boot!

Thank you to Madonna and her excellent Team for all they do for the Christmas Expo, Relay For Life and for their continued support of The American Cancer Society!

Volunteer Spotlight on Xyza

Xyza Armistice tell us the many hats she wears for the Expo. Listen up!

Xyza Armistice santas helper mama elf

WOW… Where would you like me to start?

Nuala IMed me and said me, “Xyza, I need your help.” And of course I said, “YES” before I even knew what help she needed. “What do you need me to do, Nuala?” She said, “Christmas Expo… would you like to Volunteer?” I already said yes before hand not knowing what help she needed sooooooo…..guess no backing down now!!!

As the Special Events for the 2015 Christmas Expo Photos with Santa Coordinator, I schedule days and times for Santa and his Elves. I am also know as MAMA ELF.I am the Co-organizer for the Christmas Tree Lot with Dianna Wycliffe.

And also work with the Holiday Of Hope Gala-Support Staff – finding Sponsors to provide a gift or gift certificate for either the Holiday Raffle Basket or Random Door Prize.

My roles and job for the 2015 Expo are Organizer – Coordinator – Scheduler – pickeruperer – Host – Elf – ermmmm – Mind reader?

When we work together as one team we can make an impact through Second Life!

My personal message this holiday season is be kind to each other, love each other and be thankful for what you have.

We appreciate all that Xyza does for the Christmas Expo, Relay for Life and The American Cancer Society. Thank you!

Volunteer Spotlight on Trouble

Trouble Dethly is on the Social Media, Marketing and Public Relations Team. Here he introduces himself to us all.trouble

My job for the 2015 Christmas Expo was to create was the guide book and visitor’s guide; essentially, one is an online publication, and the other an in-world publication. This job entailed creating a mini-magazine of sorts full of adverts, welcome letters, special areas and events to truly showcase all the amazing work the volunteers and content creators have done in support of Relay For Life. I also made an excellent Map and Teleport HUD because I’m all about ease of use and navigation.

I am heavily involved in the fashion industry as the CEO of both the fashion magazine ECLIPSE and agency .PENUMBRA. .PENUMBRA coordinated and produced the “Winter’s Dream Fashion Show.” All outfits in that show are semi-exclusives, where only 10 copies of each will be sold and a portion of all proceeds are donated to Relay for Life.

I more or less stumbled across my involvement in the Christmas Expo. The CMO of .PENUMBRA, Catalina Staheli, was asked to be the PR/Marketing lead, and it seemed natural that the rest of the organization lent their support 🙂 to the cause.

My message this Holiday season is simple: Be kind, even in situations that would typically dictate a different response.

Thank you to Trouble and everyone at Eclipse and .Penumbra for their creative productions and support of Relay For Life and The American Cancer Society!

Volunteer Spotlight on Eclair

Eclair Martinek is a volunteer in Design & Infrastructure Division as the primary landscaper.

framed“Nuala asked if I would like to volunteer, I said of course.  Hours later, I asked – what did I volunteer for? “Ohhhhh!?!!” was my response when I found out!  So … I am the Expo snow shoveler and tree & rock pusher. I love to create “pretty”; with a big inventory of “toys”, attention to detail and patience.

It has been an honor to be a part of Relay For Life of Second Life.

We make an impact through Second Life by creating an environment and ambiance, with a generous side of knowledge … we can create a place for people to be entertained and learn about Relay for Life.  It’s not about the amount an individual gives but amount of people who give.  If everyone gives a little – a lot gets done.

For this season and everyday have compassion, understanding, tolerance and care for each other.  Make a difference by your actions and words.  Make a difference in somebody’s moment, day or life…everyday!”

Thank you to Eclair  for her part in making  The Christmas Expo such a beautiful place  and for her support of Relay For Life  and The American Cancer Society.

Volunteer Spotlight on S.I.D.

SID 2

I am the coordinator for the Snowman building contest. I set up everything that was needed, and I am happy to say that it already was a success. All 20 spots were taken and we have a real hodge-podge of unique snowpeople! I am very proud of our creators, everyone is a winner !

I strongly believe that unity is the goal to be successful. I want everyone to feel included, no matter how big or how small their contribution may be, no one can do this alone, but together we’re strong. I don’t see barriers, I only see people, no matter where they come from or what language they would speak. There is always a way to bring everyone together, and Second Life is a great place to do that.

My holiday message is: Kindness and mercy is the only real answer to violence and war.

Sid meets Santa

S.I.D.~ Thank you for volunteering for the 2105 Christmas Expo and for your support of The American Cancer Society!

Volunteer Spotlight on Kammie

151205 Kammie 3.1This year I am the Co Lead for Entertainment and Hosting along with Darkstone Aeon. We book the Live Performers, DJ’s, Tribute and Dance Shows with all the Hosts to help us. I have done a lot of volunteer work in RL, mostly with small children, thus I have an incredible amount of patience!!

I feel we can make an impact through Second Life by simply being kind to each other! YES this is a virtual world, but WOW, behind all the AVIs are real people and YES this is very cliché, but it is something so simple that so many forget. If we all work together as one big team just imagine how much more we can do!!

I am so thankful for my beautiful girls, they keep me young and sane, I have been incredibly lucky to have met some of the best people in SL, they have stuck by me through good and bad, have been my biggest RL cheerleaders, my strength and I consider them my RL family!

And I wish you all Bigger and Better in the New Year!

Thank you to Kammie and all of her hard work to help make the 2015 Christmas Expo a great success!!!
